It is said that dynamite comes in small packages and those close to Matsetsebale Tleane will attest to this. Popularly known as “Tsetse”, the young leader has played a critical role in empowering South Africa’s youth to become prolific future leaders of Mzansi through his role as a workshop facilitator for the Anglo American Young Communicator Ambassadors (YCA).
As a workshop facilitator for the YCA, Tsetse provides intensive training to grade 11 and 12 pupils from across South Africa who do not speak English as a first language. The training consists of building key communication and leadership skills through various exercises that develop public speaking confidence, critical thinking and general presentation skills.
YCA social networks have not stopped buzzing since Tsetse started providing training. The remarkable and unique skills that he imparts to the youngsters, has resulted in him rapidly gaining a dedicated fan base.
The 20 year old Tsetse, who is currently busy with his second year of studies towards a Corporate Communication degree at the University of Johannesburg, notes that his involvement in the YCA is linked to his passion for youth development, which he believes is a divine calling on his life.
I am driven by an undying passion to help shape the future of this country by helping in the development of South Africa’s youth, and the YCA provides the perfect platform to advance my goals in this regard.
“Through equipping our youth with the necessary skills and tools required to thrive in their future endeavours, the YCA is developing and empowering its future leaders, and ultimately rewriting the future of our country.”
Now in its 19th year, the YCA sponsored by Anglo American and presented in partnership with the Department of Basic Education and the Sowetan newspaper, has been a leading platform for the personal-, social- and economic upliftment of youth, by providing skills development.
Godfrey Gomwe executive director of Anglo American in South Africa, concludes that the company’s support of the YCA since 1994 is aligned to its desire to make a significant and real difference in the communities they operate in.
“Our objectives have always extended beyond just mining to include the country’s welfare and development in the spheres of business, education and health. The YCA is an essential component of these objectives, as it empowers our country’s youth with the key personal skills required to create a positive change in their own lives, and in the world around them.
“Therefore, it is a great honour for Anglo American to sponsor the YCA, and help further nation building by encouraging the youth to find their voice, and implement solutions to key issues facing their communities and the country at large.”
