The Anglo American sefa Mining Fund

Enterprise development is the key to building a stronger and more sustainable South Africa. We make our contribution to this area in various forms internationally but locally we do this though Zimele, our enterprise development initiative.  Zimele has funded over 1,500 businesses, which provides employment   to over 30,000 people since 1998. Zimele is split into six funds, each focusing on a particular sector of the market. The Anglo American sefa Mining Fund grows emerging black empowered mining companies into commercially bankable enterprises.

Launched in 2003, the sefa Mining Fund is a joint initiative between Anglo American and Small Enterprise Finance Agency (sefa) formerly known as Khula Enterprise Finance Limited, a government-owned entity that promotes small and medium enterprise development.

Entrepreneurs face many barriers, which include access to prospecting licences / mining permits, lack of development capital and the shortage of sound advisors and guidance.

As a value-adding relationship investor, the Anglo American sefa Mining Fund helps these mining enterprises with equity and loan finance at prime interest rates p.a., complemented by technical support during the high-risk exploration and pre-feasibility stages of projects – which can get extremely complicated. Basically, this Fund brings its beneficiaries’ businesses to commercially bankable positions at which point these entrepreneurs can actually approach lenders and raise finance without hassle to get their mining operations commissioned.

In addition to the traditional mining-related areas of expertise, the financial support extended to the  companies we invest in is complemented by hands-on business support and guidance in areas such as broad-based black economic empowerment (BEE), corporate governance, safety, health, environment, legal, accounting, company secretarial aspects and public relations.

Also, sefa Mining Fund beneficiaries have access to world-class technical, engineering and mining expertise within our core businesses.

If you have a prospecting licence or mining permit and think that Anglo American sefa mining Fund can help you, follow these five easy steps, visit our website or contact us on 0860 946353 or [email protected]
