The Investing in Mining Indaba event brings together industry, government and stakeholders to have in-depth conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing the mining industry.

For us at Anglo American, it continues to be a valuable opportunity to listen, to engage and to contribute with purpose. As a long-standing participant and lead industry sponsor, we’ve taken part in conversations that matter – to our industry, our communities and our shared future.

We are guided by the belief that enduring change is only possible through partnership – grounded in openness, accountability and collective action. And by working together, we can help shape a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future for mining – in line with our purpose of re-imagining mining to improve people’s lives.

Disruptive Conversations

Aligned to this year’s theme of “Future-Proofing African Mining, Today!”, watch the series below to learn more about the resilience, innovation and partnerships that will help shape the future and make a significant and lasting contribution to the communities where we operate.

Progress through partnership

At the 2025 Mining Indaba, we reaffirmed our commitment to building a mining industry that delivers long-term value for Africa and its people.

Our Chief Executive Duncan Wanblad spoke about the opportunity critical minerals present – not just for economic growth, but for driving the global energy transition and improving lives across the continent.

But real impact takes more than investment. It calls for deeper partnerships across business, government and communities, and a shared focus on the infrastructure, skills and innovation needed to unlock lasting change.

Mining isn’t only about extracting resources – it’s about what we build together. That belief sat at the heart of Duncan’s message, and our theme for this year’s Indaba: Inspiring each other to succeed.

Moving mining forward

A reliable logistics system is essential to a thriving mining sector, but it remains one of South Africa’s biggest barriers to progress.

At 2025 Mining Indaba, Mpumi Zikalala, CEO of our Kumba Iron Ore business, joined a panel of industry and government leaders to reflect on what’s changed and what still needs to happen. She called for urgency, transparency and coordinated action, noting that the sector cannot grow or deliver long-term value without reliable rail and port infrastructure.

The formation of the National Logistics Crisis Committee marked a step forward, creating space for open, solutions-focused dialogue across stakeholders.

Improving logistics is essential to securing the future of mining – and unlocking the broader economic potential it carries for South Africa.

The human side of future-ready careers

Preparing the next generation of leaders means investing in more than just technical skills; it means nurturing the values and behaviours that shape strong, future-focused workplaces.

At the #MI25 Young Leaders Programme panel, Nevashnee Naicker, Executive Head: External Relations, spoke about the power of soft skills – like trust, communication and purpose – in building resilient careers and cultures.

Her message reflected the theme that guided our presence at Mining Indaba 2025: Inspiring each other to succeed.

A space shaped by purpose, progress and possibility

Mining Indaba 2024 offered many opportunities to connect, collaborate and share ideas – and our lounge was one expression of that.

Centred on the theme “Inspiring each other to succeed”, the space was thoughtfully designed to spark meaningful conversations and showcase the real progress we’re making as we reimagine mining to improve people’s lives.

Each zone reflected a chapter of our journey – from our heritage and impact to the partnerships and innovations shaping mining today, to a clear view of the future we’re working towards.

Visitors were invited to explore interactive displays, connect in open meeting areas and engage with the people behind our work – because we believe lasting value is created when we come together with a shared purpose.
