This Promotion of Access to Information Act Manual, or "PAIA Manual", is provided by Anglo American South Africa Proprietary Limited (the “Company”, “we”, “our”, “us” or “AASA”) and its applicable South African subsidiaries falling within the scope of this Manual.
The Manual is intended to provide you with the information necessary to understand the records that may be held by AASA, how those records may be accessed, and the procedures that apply when exercising rights of access to information under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA), read together with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) where applicable.
In particular, the Manual describes the categories of records held by AASA, records which are available automatically without the need for a formal PAIA request, the process for submitting access requests, applicable fees, and the grounds on which access may be refused in accordance with PAIA. It also includes information relating to the processing of personal information, including the purpose of processing, categories of data subjects, categories of recipients, planned transborder flows of personal information, and general information security measures.
We recognise both the constitutional right of access to information and the importance of protecting confidential, commercially sensitive, privileged, and personal information in accordance with applicable law. The inclusion of a record category in this Manual does not mean that access will automatically be granted, as each request will be considered in accordance with applicable legal requirements, subject to any lawful limitations and grounds for refusal set out in PAIA.
Requests for access to records should be directed to:
