Through our sponsorship of What About The Boys 2, Anglo American is supporting a national youth development initiative led by Primestars, in partnership with the YouthStart Foundation. The programme helps high school learners build confidence, respect, self-awareness and healthier relationships through film, guided discussion and continued learning. It builds on the first phase of What About The Boys, which reached more than 60,000 boys across 180 schools, and now brings boys and girls into the same screenings for the first time, reaching learners across the country.
This sponsorship forms part of our commitment to South Africa and reflects our belief that progress happens when the right partners come together. Through What About The Boys 2, we are helping create early learning spaces that can prevent harmful behaviours and support young people, schools and communities to build a stronger South Africa together.
For more than a century, Anglo American has been part of South Africa’s development. Our commitment to the country is reflected in the work we support across education, youth development, community well-being and partnerships that create lasting, positive impact where it matters most.
Schools are important spaces for learning. They are also where young people form values, build confidence, develop relationships and begin to understand the role they can play in society.
Through film, guided discussion and learning material, What About The Boys 2 helps learners engage with the messages they receive growing up and the choices they make every day. It gives young people a structured way to think about respect, self-awareness, responsibility and how they relate to one another.
By supporting this work, we help strengthen the values, behaviours and social foundations that communities need to grow.
The impact of What About The Boys 2 is built through partnership. Schools, mentors, government and partner organisations each play a role in reaching young people where it matters.
As lead sponsor, we are working with Primestars to extend the programme to more learners and communities across South Africa. We are enabling access to a programme that gives young people the tools, guidance and space to reflect and make better decisions.
This is part of how we show our commitment to South Africa. We partner with organisations that understand the realities young people face and can deliver programmes with real reach, credibility and care.
Our support goes beyond sponsorship. Colleagues and leaders from across the business are also participating through Ambassadors for Good, our global skills-based volunteering initiative. Through this programme, they are joining Primestars vetted mentors and the wider mentor network to support structured group sessions with learners after screenings.
These sessions help learners continue the learning beyond the film. They create space for reflection, guidance and practical support that can be carried into classrooms, homes and communities.
What About The Boys 2 is designed to reach learners through screenings, guided discussions and the Do Better Together Guide, a companion resource that supports continued learning.
