Anglo American’s Kumba Iron Ore has warned South African job seekers about a recruitment scam being run by fraudsters, who are offering interviews for non-existent jobs at the company in exchange for cash.
The mining company says scammers claiming to be from Kumba or Anglo American are attempting to engage people through various channels, including newspaper advertisements, SMSs and email.
“We will never ask job seekers for money in exchange for a job interview or position or ask for banking details before a job offer has been made. Kumba has a formal online recruitment process to advertise vacancies, which provides a unique job number for tracking purposes. We never use local agents to collect CVs,” said Communications Manager, Sinah Pochana, from Kumba Iron Ore.
There are several ways of checking if a job offer is real or not:
Kumba has urged job seekers to report anyone who pretends to be from the company or their parent company, Anglo American.
“Do not respond to any communication that you think might be fraudulent! Please contact [email protected] if you think you might have received a suspicious email or SMS, and report all suspicious activity to your local law enforcement authorities,” said the spokesperson.
